He is a former journalist and right-hand man of Kerry Packer,〔 as well as a former business associate of Malcolm Turnbull, current leader of the Australian Parliamentary Liberal Party and the 29th Prime Minister of Australia. During his career, he has served as Chairman of Oil Search Limited, Commsoft Group Limited, and Cypress Lakes Group Limited.
